New Headquarters: ArlingtonAmazon selected Arlington, Virginia as the location for its second headquarters. Amazon will invest $2.5 billion dollars, occupy 4 million square feet of energy efficient office space, and create at least 25,000 new full-time jobs. Our employees and the neighboring community will also benefit from the associated investments from the Commonwealth including infrastructure updates, public transportation improvements, and new access to Reagan National Airport.In January 2020, when we began construction at our second headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, we could not have imagined how different the year would look. Today, this work continues under extraordinary health and safety measures. Despite many of our employees working from home at this time, we view our Arlington headquarters as a long-term investment, and we remain committed to creating 25,000 jobs and investing $2.5 billion in Arlington over the next decade. We’re thankful for the warm welcome that Arlington neighbors, elected officials, civic leaders, local businesses, and nonprofits have extended to us. Here are some highlights to come from Arlington, VA:Sustainable LEED Platinum-certified buildingsMet Park, phase 1 of development due for completion by mid 2023, will have 2.1 millionsquare feet of energy-efficient office buildings with state-of-the-art workspaces and green outdoor terraces for our employees in two 22-story towers.Street-level retail and restaurants50,000 square feet of new retail space for shops, restaurants, and a daycare center for area residents and Amazonians.New public and green spaces1.1 acres of new public open space, designed for a variety of uses, including a dog park, recreation areas, farmers markets, and more – helping realize the community’s vision for a large, centrally-located park.Bike-friendly accessSpace for 600 bikes in on-site bike facilities, with plans to construct a new portion of the cycle path on South Eads Street to help link Arlington’s cycling infrastructure.Direct access to public transportationThe new site has two metro rail stations in close proximity, with construction underway for an additional entrance to serve the Arlington community. The neighborhood is also served by multiple bus lines and a commuter rail station. Plans are in place to construct an elevated pedestrian bridge directly to DCA Ronald Reagan Airport.
